BALL STATE UNIVERSITY

CHAIRPERSON

 

Search extended:  Tenure-track position available July 1, 2008, or as negotiated.  Major responsibility: provide leadership in the continuing development of an undergraduate and graduate urban planning educational program established in 1977 with significant responsibilities for professional and public service and opportunities for new directions.  Chairperson appointment is for a five-year renewable term.  Minimum qualifications:  master’s or doctorate degree in planning or closely related field; demonstrated ability to teach in one or more areas of planning; evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement that will merit faculty appointment at the senior rank; university teaching experience; administrative experience.  Preferred qualifications: doctorate in planning or closely related field; professional planning experience; AICP membership; demonstrated administrative ability; experience with undergraduate professional planning education.  Competitive salary and benefits.

 

The department is one of three in the College of Architecture and Planning.  It has accredited graduate and undergraduate degrees in planning.  There are 9 faculty positions in the department with about 60 undergraduate students and 38 graduate students.  Also, the department contributes to teaching in the common first-year program in the college.  The department emphasizes practical applications of planning using the studio model of instruction and has special strengths and areas of concentrated study in physical planning, comprehensive planning, and community development and enterprise planning.  Planned degrees and/or certificate programs are in urban design and in real estate as well as in continuing professional education.  (www.bsu.edu/planning)
